Y atelier is an interdisciplinary design studio founded by Ying Ying Yong in 2021. It is built around the pursuit of thoughtful, inclusive collaborations among architects, designers, artisans, and clients.

Ying Ying believes in creating spaces that are site-specific, understandable on a human scale, appeal to our sense of touch, and evoke feeling. She strives for timeless, inspired environments that stimulate our senses and spark beauty and joy in our everyday life.

Born and raised in Malaysia, Ying Ying earned her bachelor’s degree in architecture from UC Berkeley and has worked for two decades designing and master planning hospitality projects and custom homes — both in the U.S. and internationally. Ying Ying’s upbringing in Malaysia, study abroad in Japan, and early career at Berkeley’s JSWD Architects (co-authors of A Pattern Language), followed by a decade at Baken Arrogoni Ross (BAR) Architects, have shaped her strong belief today.
